FILM 101
Film 101 isn’t just about “how to use a camera”
It’s about connecting to something greater than yourself, and getting people excited about it.
For now, this class is geared towards teens and young adults aged 11-18, and will take place at the Applied Arts Department, in Revelstoke BC.

Learn in a small group setting, collaborate with your peers on projects, and develop an understanding for creative teamwork.

The Applied Arts Department is both a music recording, and film studio. As such, it’s got all the tools you’ll need to explore any of your creative curiosities practically.
$300 for the 4 week course, 2 hours per session. Will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm to accommodate student availability. 8 students per session.

DAY ONE
GET TO KNOW YOU, THEN GET TO KNOW YOUR CAMERA.
The first session will help you understand why you’d like to create films in the first place, covering some basic psychology and why film is interesting to you.
Once we know why you want to film, we’ll cover the basics of operating a camera, teaching how each setting affects your image, and how each setting affects the other settings.
DAY TWO
SHOT COMPOSITION AND FIELD DAY.
The second session will take place both in the studio, and on a short hike on Mt. Mackenzie behind the Applied Arts Department house. We’ll cover concepts behind building interesting compositions, and how to integrate the psychology discussed in day 1 into your image.
DAY THREE
COMPUTERS AND INTRO TO EDITING.
The third session will introduce concepts of data management, and cover the basics of the Davinci Resolve editing software. At the end of the session, you’ll get access to raw footage from past Applied Arts Department films. Using this footage, It’ll be your homework to piece together your own edit before the next session.
DAY FOUR
MASTER THE EDIT.
On the 4th and last day, we’ll go through your edit from day 3, tying up any questions and getting you real comfy with all the tools at your disposal. We’ll recap all of the important takeaways from day 1-3, and give a small test on the most important details of the class.
The highest scoring student on this test will earn a full refund of the course ($300). Take notes kids!
