WEEK ONE

Get acquainted with project structures and setting your whole edit up for success. Staying organized will make your whole life way, way easier when it comes time to make creative decisions.

We’ll also get you started with framerate compatibility, timeline settings, projects backups and autosaving, and all that fun stuff.

Then, you’ll get media package 1, and it’ll be your job to make a 30 second edit for the next class. Any questions you have while you’re editing at home, you’ll write down and bring them to the next class.

WEEK TWO

THE EDIT PAGE

The second week will start with answering all the questions that the class comes up with while working on their edit at home.

Then, we can dive straight into the edit page. You’ll learn all the keyboard shortcuts your heart desires, where to find effects tabs, and when to use certain pre-built effects. You’ll also learn how to stack and composite both video, and audio clips.

We’ll also do a sound design section, where you’ll learn how to source useful sound effects, and blend them into your video.

At the end of this day, you’ll get MEDIA PACKAGE 2, which you’ll take home and create a whole new edit with, to be shown at class in week 3.

WEEK THREE

THE FUSION PAGE

The third week will introduce the big-bad fusion page. This is where you can design visual effects, animate them, and composite them into your video. There is a lot to unpack here.

At the end of class, you’ll get MEDIA PACKAGE 3, which will include all the assets for the “fusion assignment”. This assignment involves being shown a pre-existing effect, and then prompting you to recreate it in fusion, on your own.

WEEK FOUR

THE COLOUR PAGE

On the 4th and last day, first we’ll go over the fusion assignment from the previous class and see who got the closest to the effect.

Then, we’ll learn the color tab. This is where you’ll do all your color grading, correction, and creative explorations. This is my favorite tab; there is so much room for creative decision making.

Finally, you’ll get media package 4, and the final assignment for the class. This assignment will involved using all the tools that you’ve learned in the class to make one big, sick edit. This assignment will be due 1 week after the date of the last class, and will contribute to 50% of your overall grade.
